The formulas this calculator uses

This tool supports both single and stacked discounts. Here's exactly how the math works.

1. Single Discount (Finding the sale price)

Saving = (Discount% ÷ 100) × Original Price
Sale Price = Original Price − Saving

Example: 25% off $100 → Saving = $25, Sale Price = $75

2. Stacked Discounts

First apply Discount 1, then apply Discount 2 on the reduced price.

Example: $100 → 25% off = $75 → then 10% off = $67.50 (not $65)

3. Finding the original price from a sale price

Original Price = Sale Price ÷ (1 − Discount% ÷ 100)

Example: $75 after 25% discount → 75 ÷ 0.75 = $100

How to Calculate Percentage Off

To calculate the percentage off a price, multiply the original price by the discount percentage and divide by 100. For example, 30% off $150 is (30 ÷ 100) × 150 = $45 saved, so the final price is $105. This percentage off calculator does this instantly as you type.

Discount Calculator India

For Indian shoppers, this discount calculator works perfectly in rupees (₹). Whether you're shopping during Flipkart's Big Billion Days, Amazon's Great Indian Festival, or Myntra's End of Reason Sale, this tool shows your exact savings in INR. Simply select INR from the currency dropdown and enter the original price and discount percentage.

How a discount is actually calculated

A discount removes a percentage of the original price. The saving is found by turning the discount percentage into a decimal and multiplying it by the original price. A 25% discount on a $100 item removes 0.25 × 100 = $25. The sale price is simply the original price minus that saving ($75).

Why percentage discounts can be misleading

A larger discount percentage does not automatically mean a better deal. A 50% discount on an inflated $200 tag might leave you paying more than a 20% discount on an honestly priced $90 item. Always compare the final price across stores rather than just the size of the discount badge.

Stacking multiple discounts

When a store offers "25% off, plus an extra 10% off at checkout," the two discounts are not added together to make 35%. Each discount is applied one after another. A $100 item first becomes $75 after 25% off, then the extra 10% is taken off $75, leaving a final price of $67.50.

How to use this calculator

  1. Select your currency from the dropdown.
  2. Enter the original price of the item.
  3. Enter the first discount percentage.
  4. Optionally enter a second discount (for stacked offers).
  5. See the total amount saved and final sale price instantly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a discount amount?

Multiply the original price by the discount percentage divided by 100. A 25% discount on $80 is (25 ÷ 100) × 80 = $20 saved.

How do I find the sale price after a discount?

Subtract the saving from the original price. If you save $20 on an $80 item, the sale price is $80 − $20 = $60.

How do I find the original price from a sale price?

Divide the sale price by (1 minus the discount as a decimal). A $60 price after a 25% discount means the original was $60 ÷ 0.75 = $80.

Do multiple discounts add together?

No. Discounts are applied one after another to whatever price remains, not added together. "25% off, then 10% off" on $100 gives $75, then $67.50 — not $65.

How do you calculate 20% off?

To calculate 20% off a price, multiply the original price by 0.20. For a $50 item, 20% off = $50 × 0.20 = $10 saved, so the final price is $40.

What is 30% off $50?

30% off $50 is $15 saved (50 × 0.30 = 15), so the final price is $35.

How do you take 10% off a price?

To take 10% off a price, multiply the price by 0.90. For example, 10% off $80 = 80 × 0.90 = $72.

What is the formula for discount?

The discount formula is: Discount Amount = (Discount % ÷ 100) × Original Price. Final Price = Original Price − Discount Amount.

How do I calculate discount in rupees?

To calculate discount in rupees, use the same formula: Discount Amount = (Discount % ÷ 100) × Original Price in ₹. For example, 25% off ₹2,000 = ₹500 saved, final price ₹1,500.
